Attendance
The importance of punctual and regular attendance for every student is vital. A good attendance record has a
direct effect on academic achievement. Any student who is absent must have a parent/guardian notify the school, in writing in order to excuse the student’s absence. When a student returns to school they will need signed letter providing notification that states the reason for absence. Sending a note to school does
NOT ensure the absence will be approved as an excused absence. A daytime phone number should be included on all letters. Listed below are valid reasons for excused absences.
Personal illnesses,
A death or serious illness in the immediate family,
Recognized religious holidays observed by the family’s faith,
Absences mandated by order or governmental agencies,
Conditions which render school attendance impossible or hazardous to health and safety.
Individual students who have emergencies necessitating their absence from school for a portion of the school day must be present for the majority of the school day in order to be considered present. Students checked
out prior to 11:30 a.m. will be counted absent for the day.
Our school hours are from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. It is both the parent and student’s responsibility to be punctual and remain in attendance for the entire school day. Students are expected to make up assignments missed due to tardiness or early checkout. Students arriving after 8:15 a.m. must be checked in through the
office by a parent or guardian. Students are considerd tardy after 8:15 a.m. except in the event of an emergency, there will be no checkouts after 2:00 p.m.
Chronic tardies and excessive early check-outs negatively impact academic achievement. Therefore, we encourage you to consider the times appointments are made for your child(ren). Tardies and early check-outs will affect a students’ opportunity to receive perfect attendance recognition. Perfect attendance is a student being at school all day, every day!
A student is considered truant if he/she has five or more unexcused absences. The school will contact
the parent or guardian to notify them of the unexcused absences and possible consequences under the State Board of Education Rule 160-5-1-10. Please be aware that once a student has reached 7 excused and unexcused absences a doctor’s note will be required for each subsequent absence. Continued absenteeism will result in your case being referred to the attendance review committee and the county social worker. Students absent 10 or more consecutive days will be withdrawn.
Behavior Management
Summary of classroom rules/expectations:
We use the school wide PBIS system and STAR rules/expectations.
Consequences for choosing not to comply:
Students who choose not to comply will change their card a from green to yellow (make better choices), yellow to blue (caution: correct behavior immediately), or blue to red (inappropriate behavior). As a consequence to change their cards, students may have time off from recess, time out in another class or visit with an administrator.
Summary of encouragement / reinforcement plan:
Students are encouraged daily to do their best and come in each day with a ‘clean slate’ on our behavior chart. Students begin the day on GREEN. Students chosing to make the right choices will remain on green and be a model citizen for others. Students are rewarded for having at least 4 GREEEN days during a week
by visiting the treasure box once a week. Students are also rewarded on a random basis throughout the day and week with STAR Bucks. The STAR bucks are used for the STAR GALA at the end of each 9 weeks.
Methods used to contact parents regarding behavior problems:
Parents are kept informed by written communication in the Bring Everything Everyday (BEE) books, email and
phone calls.
Grading:
Elementary report cards describing a student's progress will be sent to parents and/or guardians at the
end of four and nine-week reporting periods. In order for student grades to accurately reflect a student’s knowledge of the grade level AKS, Anderson-Livsey ES will provide students with a grade report approximately
every four weeks listing each subject and the corresponding grade.
Kindergarten student grading is as follows:
E = Excellent
S = Satisfactory
N = Needs Improvement
U = Unsatisfactory
